Rainy weekend painting

With 2 out of the 3 days this weekend one long rainy stretch, I got some painting done with a bit of a twist. Since I wasn’t able to go out to do something new, I decided to try new things with my art practice.

I challenged myself to:

A) use some of my art materials that have been sitting around unused

  • top row left- acrylic markers: used to paint the new home ornament

  • top row right-acrylic gouache & canvas panels: used to paint the tarot inspired Moon painting

collage of 6 paintings

B) just create for the fun of it, make something cute, try a different color palette etc.

  • middle row left- Toad ornament: painted with watercolor on a wood ornament primed with watercolor ground.

  • middle row right & bottom row left- Figure studies in watercolor with a limited color palette

  • bottom row right- Gouache portrait using blue & greens in the skin & hair

What are some things you have tried to change up how you practice your art? If you do not have access to different art materials, I encourage you to try using what you have in new ways. And if you do have “forgotten” art supplies that you haven’t worked with in a white, pull them out and just have fun with them!

Sometimes just playing around without focusing on the end result is exactly what we need!
